Best smoothies
Fruit smoothies are good, but are high in sugars as well as fiber. Vegetable smoothies can have lower sugar levels and still be delicious and fiber rich!
Never add dairy to your smoothies. To just say a couple of words on the subject: (I’ll go into more depth in another post) yogurts and milks are supposed to build strong bones because of the calcium content, but more and more research is proving that high protein animal sources of calcium are less optimal than lower protein sources of calcium like leafy greens or sea vegetables! The proteins in animal sources of calcium keep our bodies from absorbing that necessary calcium! This can lead to our bodies leeching calcium from our bones creating problems such as osteopenia and osteoporosis. If you look into studies done on sufferers of these frail bone problems you will find that only countries that consume high levels of protein and animal sources of calcium have high occurrences of these dreaded conditions!
Not only that, but dairy and fruits do not combine well in your belly. When your food doesn’t combine well then it takes longer to digest. When it takes a long time to digest then foods begin to ferment in your stomach creating GAS and the pains associated with that. It can get even worse and cause other digestive issues, too! So, proper food combining will not only help you feel better, but it will help you lose weight as well! When your body can quickly eliminate what is unneeded, then it will not rack up a bunch of junk and store it somewhere.
So, lower the animal dairy products you consume and UP, UP, UP the leafy green and sea vegetables! These are excellent sources of calcium as well as other vitamins and minerals.
Here is a favorite recipe in my best smoothies category:
In a blender (preferably high speed) combine
1 ripe banana
1 green apple
1-2 c. packed spinach leaves
1 c. water
Optional 1/2 Tblsp. flax seed, hemp seed or chia seed.
Blend it up and enjoy. Make this your breakfast and drink it before getting too hungry. (If you allow yourself to get too hungry then you’ll forego this vegetable smoothie for a bagel and cream cheese or something less optimal for you health and waistline!)
Once you are accustomed to the green smoothie taste, then reduce even further the sweetness! Do not use the banana, but just the apple. And remember to rotate your fruits and greens in every smoothie! Changing the ingredients in your smoothie recipes will help you receive a nice variety of vitamins and minerals.
There are so many wonderful smoothies to enjoy. Try the recipes page on this site for more and explore in your own kitchen.
Remember, be brave!
In peace and good health!
